Frequently Asked Questions

1. What’s therapy all about and how can it help me?

Therapy/counselling/psychotherapy, is a chance to chat with a trained professional about your feelings, thoughts, and behaviours. It is a great way to dive into your issues, pick up some coping techniques, and boost your mental well-being overall. Whether you are dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, or relationship concerns, or anything that is causing unease, therapy can be super helpful.

2. How do I know if therapy is for me?

Anyone can benefit from it! Therapy can be a real game-changer for those looking to grow and understand their emotional landscape. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unhappy,  unmotivated, talking to someone can really help. Depending on the therapist's approach, various interventions can be used. It is a good idea to have a chat with a therapist to see if their style resonates with what you are looking for and you feel comfortable.

3. What’s it like in the first therapy session?

In your first session, your therapist will probably want to know about your background, what is on your mind, and what you are hoping to achieve. It is a good chance for you to get to know them, share your goals, and learn how they work. It is a collaborative process, so feel free ask questions or bring up any worries!

4. What should I do if I’m in a crisis or emergency?

If you or someone you know is in a dangerous situation or having a mental health crisis that needs immediate help, please do not hesitate to head to the nearest emergency room, call 9-1-1, or visit https://www.crisiscentre.bc.ca/
